About the AKF
The Ohtsuka Amateur Karate Foundation (AKF) is a non-profit organization registered in the province of Alberta. Under the direction of Sensei Joseph Rempel, 8th Degree Black Belt, the AKF provides instruction in traditional Wado Karate, as founded by Ohtsuka Sensei and Shintani Sensei. Training focuses on the foundations of Karate and self-defence, while maintaining a contemporary approach to learning and engagement.

Clubs are situated in multiple locations in Edmonton. Each club is managed and operated by volunteer Black Belt instructors who combine their professional lives with their love of teaching and training in the art of Karate.

Classes run on various weeknights at each club location. Programs are suitable for all ages, beginning with the Little Dragons (ages 5-7) and Children (ages 8-12) programs, up to the Youth & Adult programs (ages 13 and up). Programs offered vary upon club location.

Throughout the year, fun and exciting clinics are provided in Edmonton to compliment and enhance the in-class training. All clinics feature Sensei Rempel and are excellent opportunities for students to hone their skills and learn Karate from Sensei Rempel. Students also have the opportunity to participate in the Annual Spring Tournament, hosted in Edmonton.
